New Town tribal nurse receives state honor

Holly Mayer-Taft says she didn’t expect to receive a state-wide honor.

“Thank you, first for the recognition,” said Mayer-Taft.

She also said she didn’t expect to get the award from her family.

“Holly Mayer-Taft happens to be my sister,” said Monica Mayer.

Holly’s sister and tribal councilwoman had nominated her for public health worker of the year, but Holly received an even higher honor.

“We were informed that she did not receive the Public Health Nurse Outstanding Award, she received the Outstanding Service Award, the highest award the state of North Dakota can give out,” Monica said.
