MOORHEAD — Mackenzie Hedge aims for a nursing career in an intensive care unit or an emergency department. Regardless of the setting, nursing has always been her intended life’s work.
“I want to help the patients who are in the most need,” she said. Hedge doesn’t have to wait long to get the opportunity. She will graduate with a degree in nursing and Spanish from Concordia College on Sunday, May 6. Concordia expects to confer about 432 bachelor’s degrees and eight Master of Education degrees.
Through clinical coursework, Hedge has dabbled in the areas of nursing she plans to focus on.
This spring she had a nursing practicum in the emergency department at Essentia Health, and she found the experience rewarding.
“That definitely gave me a perspective of what it’s like in the ER,” she said. “When it is intense like that it’s eye-opening to see how much the health care workers do for the patients.”
