Due to the complexity of modern health care, professionals must work together to provide optimal patient care. The process of working as collaborative teams is formally referred to as interprofessional collaboration (IPC). It is important for educators to prepare students for work as collaborative teams because research has demonstrated that a lack of teamwork and communication among professionals often results in adverse patient outcomes. Despite the urgent need to prepare future nurses for the complexities of interprofessional collaboration, nurse educators may feel overwhelmed and unprepared to teach IPC. The purpose of this presentation is to help nurse educators understand the basics of interprofessional collaborative education and provide them with resources and examples of teaching strategies they can use to teach IPC skills to their students.
